5 window managers do not know

The web and blogs are full of news about desktop managers and window managers like Gnome, KDE, LXDE, Openbox, etc.. All these relatively well known, but there are some who may never have heard, read or seen if you want a screenshot. Today I will try to introduce five window managers may not know.

Ratpoison

"5 window Ratpoison"

This is an ultra light that does not weigh 400kb, has no high dependency and all its configuration is done from a single text file. As its name implies, is a poison for rats (mouse) and everything is done from the keyboard.
Here there are no menus, icons and panels, just a console that fills the screen and can be divided vertically and horizonalmente, terminator style. All these divisions are kept maximized to take advantage of screen space.
Not a look or a way to manage the desktop that appeals to many but it has its fans.

AfterStep

It is very comical as the official site looks much as it is the window manager 5 window managers do not know
This is a desk with flexibility in mind and saving system resources. It works almost as light as other desktops except xfce or lxde this has a look more … more … not to call it, windows 95?

IceWM

It is characterized as a desktop simple, does not have many options but it does the job quite well.
It also allows fully use the keyboard which is a nice feature. If you even XFCE is heavy on your old pc then IceWM might be a solution for resource use is minimal. It has menus, icons and panel so they will not miss a thing from other window managers.

JWM

You may have used this in distros like Puppy LinuxSliTaz or Damm Small Linux but probably did not know his name.
Damm Small Linux runs on pcs with 32 megs of ram so that you should imagine how little you eat this window manager. But of course also be used in modern pcs and feel as your desktop flies5 window managers do not know
This panel also includes an application launcher and taskbar so no need to use an external one such as OpenBox.

Blackbox

You probably would be difficult to find something more minimalist this window manager. A menu, a toolbar and nothing else.
Consumption of ram: 16mb!
But no less configurable. Like its cousin OpenBox this may be one of the most configurable desks can be found.
I encourage you to try, do not stay long with the classics without trying other options you have. These desks are in the repositories of most distros, is only a matter of installing them and choose them in the login screen.
